The offense couldn't really get into a rhythm, the special teams needed Josh Cribbs and the defense ... well the defense can be summed up best by something announcer Troy Aikman said at one point, "It's as if there is no one out there defending them."
Yep, the Browns really got it handed to them yesterday. The name on the door may be "Cleveland" but Dallas didn't even bother knocking as they burst right through it.
There's a lot of talk today already about who is to blame for yesterday's loss. I'll tell you what, I don't know that there's any one person to blame. This was a total team loss.
The loss of Stallworth just an hour before the game was devastating, for sure. He was sorely missed (pardon the pun). But let's be honest, the elite teams in this league are able to get past injuries. Obviously, the Browns aren't quite there yet.
Let's face it; the Cowboys were the better team yesterday. They came into Cleveland Browns Stadium and showed us all exactly why they're a Super Bowl contender.
They didn't run up the score on us, but they played well enough to beat us good. They put us in our place.
Plain and simple — the Browns lost. They've got some re-evaluating to do. Today, we can reflect on yesterday's loss. But, tomorrow we had better get past it and start thinking about the Steelers.
Three Things I Liked About Yesterday's Game:
- The Atmosphere — It was electric yesterday at the stadium.
The seats were full right from the get-go, which is unusual for Browns fans that are typically slow to shuffle into the stadium from the tailgating. Since I was at the game, I'm not sure how it must have looked on FOX. I can only hope it looked like Browns fans gave a good showing.
- Jamal Lewis — It took him a while to get going, but for someone who missed the last two preseason games and was a game-time decision, he looked pretty good. He finished with 62 yards on 13 carries. I'm really looking forward to seeing more from him the rest of the season.
- Eric Wright — About the only bright spot for the entire defense yesterday was Wright's interception in the end zone at the end of the third quarter. Dallas marched down field with ease, and they would have made the score even more lopsided if not for Wright. Of course, if he had stayed in the end zone, they would have brought it out to the 20, instead of the 13 where he was tackled. Regardless, at least he hadn't given up when all seemed lost.
Three Things I DIDN'T Like About Yesterday's Game (other than the result, that's too obvious):
- Browns Fans — Now, I'm not talking about all the fans. But here are two complaints about Browns fans yesterday: The booing of the field goal, and the early exit. I agree that going for the field goal was, shall we say, an interesting choice. But, there is no reason for the fans to boo the way they did. Uncalled for. Now, and this is what really pisses me off about Browns fans, after the field goal there was a mass exodus out of the stadium. There was still more than 10 minutes left in the game. That's a long time in an NFL football game. Where is everyone going? Way to have faith in your team. Geesh!
- Ohio State Saturation — This one really irks me. This is a Browns game, not an Ohio State game. The two are totally unrelated. Why, oh why, does the stadium insist on playing that stupid "Hang on Sloopy" song so all the stupid OSU fans can do their "O-H-I-O" dance ala "Y-M-C-A"? And, why did the OSU band have to be there yesterday? That only added to it. I'll say it again: This is a Browns game, NOT an Ohio State game. Get a life, people.
- Cowboys Fans — Again, I ask, who lets these people get
tickets? As many Browns fans as there were in the stadium yesterday, there were still more than enough Cowboy fans. Not only that, but the Cowboys fans are so obnoxious (especially after the game, walking out of the stadium).
The Browns stunk it up - you got it right...
ReplyDeleteYou should not be pointing your big foam finger at Anderson at all... He put the ball on the money on numerous occasions to Braylon Edwards, including once in I believe it was the second quarter where he was completely behind the defense, and Edwards flat dropped them. It was a REALLY bad performance by Edwards...
The second group at whom to point the finger was the defense, specifically the defensive line who got NO pressure on Romo the entire game. They were overmatched by the Cowboys offensive line, and it was like Romo was throwing to Owens in practice.
Lastly, I know the game was nearly out of reach already, but what was Crennel doing kicking a field goal with the team down 28-7 with about 8 minutes left and only one timeout? That was ridiculous. Getting beaten 28-7 or 28-10 doesn't matter. The defense hadn't stopped the Cowboys throughout the whole game, and if he thought somehow that they were going to kick the field goal (which still had them down three scores), then stop the Cowboys three times while the Browns scored three times, he was out of his mind...
The One Thing I liked:
Romo getting a little bloody from the McGinest hit...
I was at the game yesterday. Let me tell you this. The LBs and Ss are awful.
ReplyDeleteMcGinnest is absolute ****. Notice the big runs almost all went around right end. He was owned. Wimbley is **** too. And Sean Jones can't cover anyone. Wright had an excellent game. McD sucked a bit but will be fine.
They will be no worse than 2-2 after four games. But I really want the Steelers....bad.
Thank you so much for not making me read between the lines. It is very refreshing to read someones OPINION and not have punches pulled or to be so politically correct. Pete you sure are entitled to your opinions but for me and the rest of America WE LOVE THE BUCKEYE'S. You hit the nail on the head Browns stunk it up ,but on the bright side the OSU band was able to cheer us up. When Browns fans repeatedly come back for more FAN abuse by our beloved team, we see The Buckeye Marching Band and Think WoW....at least we count on the Buckeye's to win a game for us. Yes one is Collage and the other is pro, But we can love both. Don't be afraid people....show your BUCKEYE COLORS or your Browns colors any or every day of the year.
ReplyDeleteCoach Jake
I'm right with you on the OSU stuff, though I will admit, I despise OSU.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same things at Cavs and Indians games. Why, oh why, must I be inundated with Ohio State garbage everywhere I go?
Why, Pete?!
Did you think the stadium played Hang on Sloopy because they would get a good crowd reaction and get people out of their seats and get loud? Of course they did because wake up we live in the State of Ohio and the most popular college in the State of Ohio is The Ohio State University.
ReplyDeleteWhy do stadiums do anything to get the crowd involved? Gimmicks, music, contests, and kiss cam are not game related but they get the crowd involved and are for entertainment purposes. Hang on Sloopy was for entertainment purposes and even though I wasn't there I can bet people got involved.
It's obvious you're not an Ohio State fan and that's fine but someday maybe you'll realize that you're surrounded by Buckeye fans in this State who are loyal to their team like you are to the Browns. You should appreciate a fan base like that instead of calling their cheers and their fans "stupid."
The stadium knew what they were doing when they played that song and people enjoyed it. Maybe you didn't but I'm guessing the majority did and that's who matters. So as long as you're in the State of Ohio wake up and realize you're in the minority and just live with it because it's a reality that's NEVER going away.
