Where is Jim Brown's Statue?

Talk about the Cleveland media blowing things out of proportion! The latest is this whole Jim Brown controversy. I mean, why is everyone jumping down his throat?

Yes, the situation is getting further and further out of control now that Jim Brown is starting to speak out on the subject. The Cleveland media forced him into it. He was content not to say a thing about it, letting his actions (or absence) speak for itself.

I give huge props to The Morning Journal's Zachary Dzurick, who wrote in a recent column, "The local media has gone out of its way to sway public opinion toward the Cleveland Browns and away from the greatest player to ever don an Orange helmet."

I couldn't agree more!

Don't get me wrong, I hope Holmgren is just as successful in Cleveland as the next Browns fan dreams, but I'm not going to blindly drink the kool-aid. Holmgren hasn't done anything of note yet. I'm rooting for him to do well, but I'm not ready to completely put my blind trust in him.

This unconditional support for the newest regime is simply the latest in a long line of what Browns fans are conditioned to do. We're so desperate for a winner, we love to blindly put our faith and trust in the newest person brought in to turn things around.

I'm not saying we shouldn't support Holmgren. I'm simply saying that we, Browns fans collectively, seem to forget easily. We applauded Mangini and Kokinis when they were first brought in, and quickly turned against them. We cheered for Savage and Crennel, before that relationship turned sour. Butch Davis was our savior, for a brief moment as well. Shall I go on?

We've been spurned many times. Hell, even Jim Brown himself "spurned" us when he retired early to pursue a career in Hollywood. The difference is, Jim Brown had great success in a Cleveland Browns uniform and has been an advocate, a voice of reason and an ambassador for this team and this city for years.

Dzurick also states in his column, "The fact there is not a statue of Brown in front of the stadium like the Indians did back in 1994 for Bob Feller speaks volumes as well."

Yes, Jim Brown deserves a statue, not the embarrassing, hate-filled comments currently being spewed at him by Browns fans and the Cleveland media.

Go Browns!

  1. My sources say that Mr. Brown and his statue are taking their talents to South Beach. . .

  2. You might want to double-check those sources. Unlike LeBron James, Jim Brown is a proven winner who actually did something positive for Cleveland sports.

  3. If Jim Brown's hurt feelings override any desire to honor Browns fans and his former teammates by attending the Ring of Honor ceremony, why in the world would anyone even consider stroking his ego with a statue? I don't hate JB at all, but please ...

  4. Yes, perhaps now is not the time to campaign for a statue of Jim Brown to be commissioned outside Cleveland Browns Stadium.

All I'm saying is, Clevelanders need to lay off this hero, because he hasn't really done anything wrong.

    Thanks for your comment.
