Colt McCoy looked like a rookie, and the WR's still suck - but OH BABY...THE DEFENSE took the Saints to school today in their 30-17 victory in New Orleans!
Rob Ryan's masterfull defensive game plan (and David Bowens sticky-fingers) was the key to victory today, without question. The offense contributed...a little bit, using enough smoke and mirrors to make the travelling carnival envious...but Mangini and the coaching staff have two solid weeks now to continue working with Colt McCoy on getting comfortable in this offense before the Browns take the field again.
All in all, this was the best showing the Browns have had since the Pittsburgh game last year - and may prove to be even bigger in the long run as this young team gains a belief in what the coaching staff is asking them to do. There's no doubt...when the game plan works like it did today, the Browns can beat anybody.
Mangini will do what he can to keep the players grounded and focused during the bye week, trying to avoid a let-down after the off-week with the murderer's row portion of the schedule in full effect (home games with the Patriots and Jets come next)...but the players deserve to enjoy this one. And they will.
Enjoy it Cleveland. We may not win a lot of games this year, but if the ones we do win are as sweet as this game was, then good things look to be ahead for those of us chained to the shores of Lake Erie.
