Browns in First Place – What?!?!

After that devastating loss to the Bengals in Week 1, I’ll admit I lost my motivation to blog. I’ve also been fairly busy and, unfortunately, hanging out in the Blawg Pound isn’t my full-time job. So, with so much going on already, losing to the Bengals was a big blow.

It was rough that week following the loss to Cincy. I thought for sure we were in for another long season. I couldn’t bring myself to write anything that week. What was I going to say? That the Browns still couldn’t finish a game? That the Browns still couldn’t win a divisional game?

I’d said it all before. I was ready to swear off blogging.

Then, the Browns did something good. They beat the Colts. Sure, the Colts were without Peyton Manning and have been struggling this year, but the Browns still won.

Was it a fluke? I wasn’t sure. I felt a lot better that week after the win, but I still wasn’t ready to start blogging again.

I caught a lot of flak for not blogging too, but I didn’t really care. Though the Browns were in a four-way tie for first place in the AFC North, I still hadn’t gotten my blogging mojo back.

Yesterday, I watched the game with no plan whatsoever to blog today. It was a bit of a relief, and I was able to enjoy the game.

It was a real nail-biter, and I thought for sure the Browns were going to lose again, thanks to a celebration penalty and a horse collar tackle penalty. I was sure the Dolphins were going to kick a game-winning field goal and Colt McCoy’s TD drive would be for naught.

I was wrong. Dead wrong. And I couldn’t be happier.

This morning, the Browns are still in first place in the AFC North. Granted, it’s a three-way tie with the Steelers and Ravens (how’s the basement feel, Bengals?), but it’s still first place.

The Browns are 2-1 and I learned a lot about this team yesterday.

I can stay silent no more. I think I’m back … and I hope you’ll stick around too.

Go Browns!
