Matthews a Target for Browns?

We all certainly remember the great Browns linebacker Clay Matthews. You could always count on good ol' No. 57 on those great Browns defenses of the late 80s, early 90s.

This past season, we were certainly reminded of his greatness as his son, Clay Matthews III, was an integral part of the Green Bay Packers' Super Bowl season. Browns fans couldn't help but scratch their heads wondering what if ... what if we had drafted him two years ago instead of Alex Mack?

As great as the younger Matthews has been for Green Bay, I think it was for the best that the Browns drafted Mack. He's proved to be a solid center for the much-much-improved offensive line (and, let's not forget about his touchdown in this year's Pro Bowl).

But wait ... the great Clay Matthews has another son! Yes, Oregon's Casey Matthews will be eligible in this year's draft.

While not quite the standout his brother is/was, Casey can definitely hold his own. Sure, he's a projected fourth-round pick, unlike his first-round father and brother, but he definitely should be considered a viable option for the Browns.

Both Clay Matthews play/played outside linebacker. Casey Matthews is an inside linebacker, capable of playing in the 4-3 defense the Browns are transitioning to, as well as a 3-4.

Scouting reports on Casey Matthews call him "an instinctive (middle) linebacker with an excellent pedigree. Matthews’ toughness, work ethic and passion will appeal to teams."

If the Browns do draft him, he'll certainly have a lot to live up to in this uniform with the name he has ... then again, he's been living in the shadow of his father and his brother all his life. What better way for him to make a name for himself — and outshine his Super Bowl-winning brother — than to succeed where his father succeeded and help that team do something his father could not: get to and win a Super Bowl.

Go Browns!
