I'm not a big fan of media whores — those people who will do anything just to get their names in the news (PETA is one of the worst offenders). That said, I wasn't going to even address the latest cracked-out publicity stunt that's been all over the news, but (and you know me) I just can't keep quiet.
In case you haven't heard, Ken Lanci has filed a lawsuit against the Browns and the NFL over the player lockout, claiming it amounts to a breach of his contract to buy tickets through his personal seat license.
Yeah, that's right ... he's suing the Browns because of the Lockout.
First of all, this is ludicrous. Why would this even work, and what makes Ken Lanci think he's the only one smart enough to think to do it?
A little background on Mr. Lanci — He is a successful printing mogul who drives a luxury car worth more than most homes. He lives in a suburban mansion valued at nearly $2 million. Lanci recently ran as an Independent for Cuyahoga County Executive.
Now, I'm not saying he's a bad guy — he's done a lot for many charities — but there are many suspect skeletons in his closet.
Regardless, I think this lawsuit serves one purpose and one purpose only, and it's not to put an end to the NFL Lockout. No, the real purpose of this absurd lawsuit is to bring attention to Ken Lanci.
That's it. Lanci simply craves the spotlight, and he has the money to file this frivolous lawsuit that will (and has) gained national attention.
Look, Mr. Lanci, we're all Browns fans (and NFL fans) and we're all upset about the Lockout and the possibility of not being able to watch football in the fall. Your lawsuit, however, isn't really helping the matter. In fact, I'm pretty sure Randy Lerner and the NFL couldn't care less that you're suing them.
You're only doing this to make a name for yourself. And, guess what ... No one cares! Don't you have anything better to do with your time and money?
Go Browns!
