I've often mocked the king of mock drafts, Mel Kiper Jr. Why do I do it? Simple ... because I'm jealous.
Think about it. He works a few months out of the year, gets paid a boat load of money, is considered an expert ... and yet, he's never right!
What a sweet gig! It's better than being a weather man (the only other profession I can think of where you get paid to make predictions, but you're not fired if you're wrong).
OK, so maybe "never" is a strong word. Anyone, however, who's ever watched the NFL draft or followed the NFL draft or has ever heard of Mel Kiper Jr. knows what I'm talking about. He's built up as this draft guru, who is supposed to know who all the best college football players are and which NFL teams should draft them.
Rarely, and I mean rarely, is his mock draft even remotely correct.
Think about it ... if Mel Kiper Jr. was as great at evaluating talent as ESPN makes him out to be, wouldn't he have been snatched up by some NFL team for an even bigger boat load of money to be the GM or something?
Kiper's only true talent is his ability to speak confidently and convince people he knows what he's talking about. That, and his incredible hair.
Currently, Kiper has the Browns taking Georgia wide receiver AJ Green with the No. 6 pick in the NFL Draft, but believes Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers may still be available.
Well, that does it for me ... I don't expect Bowers to be available and I don't expect the Browns to pick AJ Green.
(BTW, in case you wondered, I'm trying as best I can to stay away from this NFL Lockout mess ... There has to be a season, and for now I'm going to pretend there will be ...)
Go Browns!

I have thought the same exact thing many times. I want to get overpaid to watch and study football and be wrong 90% of the time. He has the life most men can only dream of. If that wasn't enough they had to bring in Todd McShay to be even more wrong, but add drama between he and Kiper.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, Adam.
ReplyDeleteYes, as if Kiper and his hair weren't drama enough, along comes Todd McShay ...
Go Browns!
